day 3 – Acadia, Maine to Conway, New Hampshire

Miles driven day 3: 243

Total miles: 623

Wednesday morning: we soaked in some of the sunrise when we woke up, but it was so cold. Surrounded by people there to watch and photograph the sunrise, we packed up our beds and moved all of our things to the back again before heading down the park loop to the sand beach.

Our plan was to make breakfast on the propane burner at the beach, but unfortunately it didn’t quite work out. One of the burner parts didn’t work… but the beach was pretty!

We headed to Bar Harbor, to stop at True Value for the missing burner part and to sit in the natural foods store, drink coffee and tea, and use the wifi do some “housekeeping”.

From there it was back to Acadia, where Caitlin successfully cooked a delicious brunch of rice, maple sausage, eggs and toast.

The sun was warm on the rocks and the water was beautiful. Much clearer and brighter than the day before.

We drove several hours to Conway, New Hampshire and found a spot to sleep. We ended up parking in a wooded parking lot for a campground off the Kangamagus highway. Our National parks pass lets us enter and park in the parks. We set up our car bed, did some art journaling, and made it an early night.

It wasn’t as cold and it really wasn’t as rainy off the Kangamagus as it was forecast to be in Franconia notch so we slept much better last night.

Weather: mild and mostly sunny all day Tuesday. Cold but not freezing, windy on Tuesday night. Sunny and comfortable in light layers today!! Forecast for 50’s-60’s and mostly sunny all day, dropping to 40’s tonight.
